I wanna talk about me, wanna talk about I, wanna talk about number one.

Even though this sounded like it would be pretty easy, I had a hard time coming up with "random" facts about myself...but let's see what I came up with :-)

1. I was an all conference athlete in high school.
I was a four year Varisty soccer player and was named to 2 All Conference Teams and an All State Team my Senior year. I was also a 2 time All Conference tennis player and won my division my Junior and Senior years.

2. Reality TV is my vice.
Jersey Shore, Top Chef, Teen Mom, Project Runway and my new obsession Lizard Lick Towing, plus many, many more. It's so addicting and so bad for me (I can *literally* feel brain cells dying) but I just love it!

'Cause I got your picture, I'm coming with you. Dear Maria, count me in.

I can't believe I lasted through *every single one* of my co-workers catching the cold/flu and didn't get it until now! Ugh!

It started on Friday with a sore throat that I didn't really pay attention to, since my mom and I were going to a Bat Mitzvah that night that we were looking forward to. But then I woke up on Saturday and my throat was on fire, my nose was running and just all over icky.

I got some cold medicine and went to bed sleep at 8:30 last night so I'm feeling a little better, although I'm losing my voice which is tres unattractive, especially when my job is 95% on the phone haha Hopefully this is all gone soon!

In other news, I did some running around on Friday...literally. I went to get my tire (finally!) and grabbed some coffee while I was waiting, which doesn't sound that bad, but I haven't had coffee in about a year so I was totally wired all morning! I went to Target and got these cuties:

They were a little bulky, no no wearing them to work-but I think they are super adorable otherwise! Yay for pay day! haha

You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter, you are the best thing that's ever been mine.

Today for Top Two Tuesday on The Undomestic Momma, it's "Top Two Things You've Learned About Relationships."

Even though I'm not currently in a relationship, I've had some trials and errors over the past few years which have all taught me a lot. While it hurt when some of those relationships ended, I've realized that what I learned from them will help me to a be a better partner in future relationships, so I've developed some gratidtue for all of them :-)

1. If I'm going to be happy in a relationship, I have to be happy with myself.

I went through a period of "serial dating"-jumping from one relationship to the next, without much of a break in between. Suffice it to say, I wasn't all that happy with the situation, or myself, by the end of it. I ended up taking an almost year long break from dating, by the end, I was actually happy and content! I got into a relationship, which didn't work out, but when it ended, I knew it had nothing to do with what I looked like, how I talked, etc and was really just that we weren't compatible. It made getting over the break up just a little easier.

2. Agreeing on core issues is key.

I was in a relationship that I was really happy in, but when we started discussing some core issues, we didn't agree on them at all! For instance, I want a family with children and he didn't. Also, even though I don't go to Temple every week, I pray on a regular basis and have a definite faith in God, neither of which he understood and even worse, wasn't interested in learning about. Because of these, along with some others, it really didn't matter how happy we were in that moment, it realistically wasn't going to last.

And I'll find strength in pain and I will change my ways. I'll know my name as it's called again.

This past week was a pretty eventful week, some planned and some not so much haha

On Wednesday, I had an interview for a marketing internship. It would be with the same company I work for now, but for a few months this summer, I would work with a different department, along with working my regular job full time. I was supposed to hear back on Friday if I got the position, but no word yet-so fingers crossed!

On Thursday, my brother Sam and I headed out to Plymouth to see GirlTalk.

We got there at 7, and doors didn't open till 8, so we stood outside in the 20 degree weather and nearly froze to death. Literally, by the time we went inside, my skin was cracking everytime I moved-it was THAT cold. Luckily, it paid off because we ended up being at the front of the crowd. There was a bunch of d-bags not so nice people by us, all of whom got kicked out of the show by the end. Junk Culture was the first opening act. They were pretty sweet-just a DJ, a kid playing drums and a projector. They were pretty good, but the Max Tundra, who was the second act to go on, was super hype.

There was a lot of drama in the crowd which definitely contributed to the negative vibe at the beginning of the show. Some girl even tried to start something with me because I was dancing too close to her...so lame. Luckily, most of the people causing the drama got thrown out so the show ended up being much better.

GirlTalk came out and had like 30 people up on stage dancing, his hype men were throwing balloons and confetti and toilet paper into the crowd, just being crazy. There wasn't a ton of room to dance because there were just *so many* people, but I made it work. I was definitey sore the next day, but it was totally worth it :-)

While I was at the show, my freshman English teacher sent me an email asking me to house sit for her while her family went out of town this weekend. I called her back the next day and went to pick up the key before they left. On the way there, my car started making kind of a funny noise. Since I had just got my brakes fixed, I thought maybe something I was hanging down from under the car and hitting the wheels or the tire-rod, since it sounded like kind of a "thud".

That night my friend Dan and I chilled at thier house (and by chill, I mean we watched Lizard Lick Towing, which is the best show on tv, played Crash Bandicoot on PS2 and ate Mr. Pizza-basically the best Friday night ever) and since my car sounded about the same as earlier, I figured I'd talk with my parents about it the next day. So I stopped by their place on the way to work and mentioned that I was going to take my car in on Monday.

On the way home from work, I called my mom to ask her if she could take a look at my car and at the noise it was making. Not even 3 minutes later, my front driver side tire came off...while I was driving!!! Luckily, I wasn't on the highway, I wasn't going too fast (since it was snowing) and there wasn't much traffic right then. I pulled off to a side street and called my mom. We got towed to the same place that fixed my brakes last week because, obviously, they didn't put the tire back on correctly.

Luckily, they are paying to get it fixed and they are giving my dad money to cover to tow I had to get to the shop. A couple friends heard what happened and called to see how I was doing-such sweet friends :-)

They ended up putting the spare on because they have to order the tire, so I am able to drive it and just have to bring it in later this week to get my new tire.

I don't have anything much planned for this week-so let's hope it stays that way haha

We are family. Get up everybody and sing!

Today over at Kelly's Korner it's "Show Us Your Life-Show Us your Family!"

So...I'm going to share 5 (pretty random) things I love about my mom, dad and my little brother :-)

Mom

1. Sometimes instead of going to the gym in the morning, we go out out to breakfast instead.

2. I taught her how to dance last year, and it's one of the funniest things I've seen.

3. Even though she hated when I said it, she now uses words like "trashy" and "douchebag".

4. Shes's one of the best bakers and cooks I know. If I could have half of her talent, I'd be pretty well off.

5. My dad always says she has "the gift" when it comes to children. She makes every child she comes in contact with smile and giggle. It's really amazing to witness.
Dad

1. He calls me to let me know that Miguel Cabrera was arrested for a DUI (even though I'm at work).

2. His CD collection had over 600 discs.

3. He took me to my first concert (Beck on the Midnight Vultures Tour in 2003)

4. If it were up to him to make dinners, we would have lived off of Sloppy Joe's and Hamburger Helper.

5. He knows just about everybody in our city-we can barely walk around without someone recognizing him.

Sammy

1. He writes raps and they are actually really good.

2. He's over 6" tall, where as I'm barely 5".

3. He's one of the smartest people I know-literally, he's a genius.

4. He's also one of the funniest people I know-super sarcastic but also hilarious.

5. He's probably one of my best friends-we talk a lot and hang out pretty often as well.

We look pretty much like your average Midwest family, but we're a little quirky and kind of crazy-and I think that's just the way we like it :-)

Money, it's a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.

Today, I'm trying out Top Two Tuesday on The Undomestic Momma. The topic is "Top Two Things You've Learned About Money."

My dad is a banker, so he's been trying to instill good money management skills since I was little. Unfortunately, some of them took a little longer to take hold lol But these two are the ones I keep at the forefront of my mind (and bank statement :-)

1. "Wanting" is not the same as "Needing"

When I was in high school, I worked but didn't have many expenses so I was able to shop a lot more than I probably needed to. I always talked about things I wanted, but used the verb "need" (i.e. I need those new high heels, I need a new mini skirt). They were all totally things I didn't need at all! As I've grown up, I've begun to learn the difference. I *need* to get my oil changed, but I *want* to buy new earrings. Big difference haha

2. Saving doesn't have to severly impact my income

I've worked at jobs with direct deposit before, but at my current job, I am able to have money divided into multiple accounts. I have most of it go in to my checking, but I also have $5 per check go directly into savings. It doesn't seem like a lot, but it does add up (I also have "Keep the Change" at my bank so when I use my debit, it rounds up and send the difference to my savings account). The money is only for emergencies, but it's nice to know I have a cushion if I need it. I also have money put directly into a 401(k) account. In the few years I've had it, it's really grown. And even though I can't really touch it right now, it definitely alleviates stress when I think about the future.

February 28, 2011

And just like the movies, we play out our last scene.

The past week I kind of went on a movie binge. I had to catch up on my Oscar Challenge, and ended up watching another (not nominated one) for good measure :-)

First of all, can I just say I'm *in love* with Redbox? My parents have Netflix, and I use that occasionally, but Redbox is perfect for me since I don't really watch enough movies to justify paying every month. $1 everytime I want to watch something is ideal.

Now, on to the movies...

Last Friday, I invited some friends over to watch Inception with me.

It didn't end well-the movie was too involved and none of us really ended up watching it. Plus, we are all old and they ended up leaving before it was over. I watched it by myself the next night and it went much more smooth. I thought it was a good movie-the special effects were obviously awesome, and while the story was interesting, I thought it was a little lacking. Also, as much as I like looking at Leonardo DiCaprio, I feel like he's playing the same character in most of his movies recently. Which is a shame, considering he's pretty talented.

That Sunday, I went over to my parents for dinner and we watched the Social Network.

I didn't like this one as much as the others, but I still thought it was decent. Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg was really good, but besides that I wasn't all that impressed. I thought that it was interesting, but only because I remember the creation of Facebook. I'm not sure, but in my opinion, this one might have been a streach for Best Picture.

On one of my days off, I watched Winter's Bone.

This was hands down my favorite of the one's I saw this year. I loved the score, I thought the acting was great and the scenery, costumes, etc, looked so real. I loved the story as well and thought it was perfectly paced. This one was definitely my pick for Best Picture.

Last night, I went to my parents and watched Toy Story 3 (I think I'm the only person on the planet who didn't see Social Network, Inception or Toy Story 3-ha!).

It was super cute-pretty dark for a kids movie, though. A lot of people told me it was really sad, so I was expecting to cry, but, amazingly, I didn't lol I teared up a little at the end, but nothing like I was expecting. The part I find the most amazing is the animation itself-it looks so realistic! I can't believe it sometimes!

Backtracking a little to Wednesday, my mom and I watched Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I probably shouldn't have watched it with my mother, but I thought it was hilarious! I mean, how can you not love Seth Rogan as the Loveable Loser? And Elizabeth Banks is pretty funny as well. The story was quirky, and pretty original. All in all, I really liked it.

As for my Oscar Challenge, I ended up seeing 8 out of 10, which I'm pretty happy with.

The List
  1. Black Swan
  2. The Fighter
  3. Inception
  4. The Kids Are Alright
  5. The Kings Speech
  6. 127 Hours
  7. The Social Network
  8. Toy Story 3
  9. True Grit
  10. Winter's Bone

The Oscars were on last night and I watched a little bit before I fell asleep. The Kings Speech won Best Picture and Colin Firth took home Best Actor. Like I said, my pick for Best Picture was Winter's Bone, but I thought Colin Firth was definitely the best actor in the films I saw. Natalie Portman won Best Actress and that was definitely deserved! She was so poised and graceful, yet kind of creepy and sad...I loved her performance!

I didn't stay awake for the whole ceremony, but I did get to see this and it cracked me up:

I guess I should rescind my statement from my previous post.
Me= HUGE nerd :-)
