We're gonna build something this summer.

I cannot believe how fast Labor Day got here! I mean seriously, I feel like it was just May and now, it's unofficially the end of summer-time sure is flying :-(

My Labor Day weekend was pretty chill, which is just how I like it lol Since I work in food service, I didn't get the day off or get to enjoy the long weekend but I did get to do some fun stuff anyway.

I continued my tradition of spending every summer holiday at the ball park and watched the Tigers lose to the Royals on Thursday afternoon.

I also picked up a pretty wicked sunburn...oops!

This picture doesn't really do it justice. When I saw my brother later, he just said "What up, lobster?" :-/
(Also, there are tan lines from my necklace...awesome lol)

We were super slow at work, because everyone else was enjoying a mini-vaca but I took the time to do some homework and get caught up on blogs so I didn't mind too much :-)

After work on Monday, I was able to enjoy some of my mother's delicious barbeque. I wanted to take pictures, but by the time I got there most of the food was gone :-( I was able to score some yummy ribs and potato salad, so I was a happy girl.

Even though it was 3453829561 degrees all week, it cooled down perfectly and I broke out my Uggs on Tuesday.

Hello, Michigan weather-we go from 90 and sunny, with 100% humidity to 60 and rainy in 2.5 seconds flat.

Ain't no colour paint gonna cover the stains.

My new apartment has basically been a construction zone for the past week and a half while I've been painting. What I thought would be a one day/8ish hour project ended up taking me over a week to complete.

It started with me spackling the holes....

It seriously looked like whoever was there before me just sprayed the room with a pellet gun.

then I was able to start priming...

and even though my mom warned me that I'd probably have to do two coats of primer to completely cover the old, dark, dry paneling, I decided to try it with just one...

but since I was able to paint one.whole.wall. before realizing admitting to myself that I needed a second coat of primer, I was also able to decide that I wasn't in love with the color. I wanted a more mustard-y yellow and this was, as my mom put it, "school bus yellow".

So I put another coat of primer on the other three walls and chose another shade of yellow for the accent wall.

The splotch is the new color, in comparison to the old.

The last step was to paint the other three walls.

It kinda looks blue, but it's actually a *really* light grey (It's Valspar Grey Mist). I wanted it to be darker, but the room is so small I knew I needed to use light colors to make the room seem bigger. The yellow is Valspar Bugle Call, in case you were curious.

Since I still want some darker grey, I'm going to paint a 6-12" stripe around the room on the grey walls, about two feet from the ceiling. I'm hoping that will bring out the grey tones in the light grey and satisfy my need for dark grey haha

All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. And I'm super proud that I did it all by myself! Every roll of the roller and stroke of the brush was done by yours truly. What I was not expecting however, was how dang sore I would be after it was all done!

Manual labor is hard work, ya'll.

Come to my window, crawl inside, wait by the light of the moon.

Moving out of my parents, yet still living in the same city has some definite advantages for both sides. For me, I get home cooked meals whenever I want, a place to sleep if I'm out late and happen to be closer to their house than mine, and, since they live closer to the gym than I do, a place to shower because public showers are just....ew.

For them, they get to enjoy the perks of me working a bakery (I'm pretty sure they haven't bought a loaf of bread in almost 3 years), they get to hang out with me (which is the best part, I'm sure) and, since my brother often drives my mom's car, I am available to play chauffeur.

My morning routine involves going to the gym, then heading to my parents to use the aforementioned shower and then going to work. And with the role of chauffeur, a few times a week I drop my mom off at work. They let me use their shower and I drive my mom to work-it's a great trade off.

One particular morning, we were leaving for work and as soon as the door closed, I realized I had left my keys, both car and house, inside the (now locked) house.

"Oh, shoot. My keys are in there. Do you have your house key?"

"Um....no.... Your brother has my keys."

We stared at each other in horror for a good 30 seconds. Since it was the middle of summer, we had closed all of the windows and turned on the air conditioner. Neither of us had a garage door opener. Our neighbors that have a copy of our house key were on vacation.

Basically, we were screwed.

We walked around the house, double checking all the windows, when we came to my parents bathroom. There is a small window, farther off the ground than the rest. We noticed that the window was open just a crack, but with the window being 8 or 9 feet off the ground and my mom being the taller of the two of us, coming in at 5'3", we were at a loss for how to use this to our advantage.

After trying a couple different options (think cheerleaders trying to throw the flyer), I finally climbed onto my mother's shoulders and was able to lift the window a little farther. I hoisted myself through the window and lowered myself to the ground. After breathing a sigh of relief, I ran around the house, grabbed my keys and double checked that my house keys were in fact on the ring, locking the door and finally going to work.

After that experience, I can honestly say I never lock, or even just close the door, without being absolutely, positively certain, my keys are on the same side of the door as me.

Stilettos, pumps, in da club. Get crunk.

I've been trying really hard not to spend money. I have money to spend, I'm just trying to make a more conscious effort to save it.

But sometimes, it's really hard. Like when you walk into TJMaxx looking for a purse, but they don't have one you like (that isn't a million dollars) so to console yourself, you look at shoes, but keep repeating to yourself that "you're not going to buy anything, because you don't need new shoes."

And somehow, in between repeating that mantra many times over, you walk out of the store with these:

Oops.

(Now I just need to find somewhere to wear them haha)
