She never comprimises, loves babies and surprises, wears high heels when she exercises. Ain't it beautuiful?

It's Show us Your Singles over at Kelly's Korner so here it goes....

I feel like writing about myself should be a lot easier ha! Hopefully this doesn't come off sounding like a cheap personal ad haha

To start, I'm Amanda, 23 and live in southeast Michigan. I'm the oldest of two, and my mom, dad and little brother are probably three of my closest friends (sounds corny but it's true!). I'm really blessed to have a job that I love at a bakery and am still in school, working towards a degree in public relations.

Just being silly, as per usual

Even though school and work take up a lot of my time, when I'm not doing one of those two you can probably find me with my friends. I can have fun doing anything from laying around watching movies to trying out new restaurants, or from sitting around a bonfire to bar hopping for a night. My friends often tell me I'm laid back and drama free, both of which I consider compliments :-)

I'm a pretty passionate person about a lot of things, including my Detroit Tigers (or all Detroit sports to be honest!), my friends and family, being happy and having a good time, no matter what!

Supporting my Lions!

Things I like:
Going to the gym
Spending summer at the ball park
Cooking and baking
Talking to people
Smiling
Dancing to music
Making people laugh (whether with me or at me, I'm cool with both haha)
Trying new things
Meeting new people

I know since most of you a down south, it's probably a long shot, but I figured I'd give it a chance anyway! If anyone has any questions or anything let me know-thanks for stopping by!

If anyone is interested, this is my FB:

I was always a cutie, huh? haha

Our aspirations are wrapped up in books.

Today ..err yesterday-at Kelly's Korner it's "Show Us Your Life-What's your reading list?"

I'm reading a few books right now and just finished one so I'll share those :-)

1. Moneyball

I always keep a book at my parents when I spend the night so it takes me a while to finish them, but this is my newest one. I've been meaning to read it for a while (my dad got it when it came out and that was like 5+ years ago lol) but it's about how the Oakland A's changed baseball with the way they draft players-not looking at normal stats like batting average, but rather things like on base percentage. So far I really like it-it's a pretty perfect spring book...I get to watch baseball and read about it :-)

2. The Happiness Project

I also keep a book at work to read on my lunch break. I've been reading this one lately and I love it. It's about a woman who decided she wanted to be happier and set monthly goals for herself like boosting energy and making time for friends. It's been really interesting to see who she went about it and I've been putting some of the things she learned in to practice in my own life as well.

3. How to Be Good

I just finished this not too long ago and even though it took me a while to get through it, I ended up enjoying it. Nick Hornby is a really good writer and this was interesting. It coincided with me doing some thinking about what it meant to be good, so it definitely brought up some thoughts about human nature and what being good is all about.

We are family. Get up everybody and sing!

Today over at Kelly's Korner it's "Show Us Your Life-Show Us your Family!"

So...I'm going to share 5 (pretty random) things I love about my mom, dad and my little brother :-)

Mom

1. Sometimes instead of going to the gym in the morning, we go out out to breakfast instead.

2. I taught her how to dance last year, and it's one of the funniest things I've seen.

3. Even though she hated when I said it, she now uses words like "trashy" and "douchebag".

4. Shes's one of the best bakers and cooks I know. If I could have half of her talent, I'd be pretty well off.

5. My dad always says she has "the gift" when it comes to children. She makes every child she comes in contact with smile and giggle. It's really amazing to witness.
Dad

1. He calls me to let me know that Miguel Cabrera was arrested for a DUI (even though I'm at work).

2. His CD collection had over 600 discs.

3. He took me to my first concert (Beck on the Midnight Vultures Tour in 2003)

4. If it were up to him to make dinners, we would have lived off of Sloppy Joe's and Hamburger Helper.

5. He knows just about everybody in our city-we can barely walk around without someone recognizing him.

Sammy

1. He writes raps and they are actually really good.

2. He's over 6" tall, where as I'm barely 5".

3. He's one of the smartest people I know-literally, he's a genius.

4. He's also one of the funniest people I know-super sarcastic but also hilarious.

5. He's probably one of my best friends-we talk a lot and hang out pretty often as well.

We look pretty much like your average Midwest family, but we're a little quirky and kind of crazy-and I think that's just the way we like it :-)

February 12, 2011

When I wake up, in my make up, it's too early for that dress.

Today, I'm trying something new and linking up to Kelly's Korner for "Show Us Your Life-Beauty Secrets"!

Let me preface by saying, it taken me quite a while to decide on the right combination of hair and beauty products. I have curly hair and have struggled with acne for a few years so it's taken a lot of trial and error. I used to buy only the most expensive products, thinking that those would do the trick. But at some point, I realized that a lot of the cheaper stuff works just as well and I don't have to break my bank account to look half way decent!

For hair, I have really fallen in love with:

TreSemme Flawless Curls. It one of the only thing that keeps its hold all day on my decently long and curly hair.

Sauve Hairspray. Because of my curls, I go through hairspray by the gallon it seems. This stuff has amazing hold, will last all day, and is the best for the price. I haven't find anything that really comes close to be honest.

Even though I wear my hair curly most days, I love my FHI straightener. This past summer, I broke down and bought a good (read: decently expensive) straightener and it was one of the best purchases I've made. My hair is is able to be transformed into stick straight locks (with the help of some hair oil, which is my life saver) and stays that way for a few days with only a few touch ups here and there. I love it, for realz.
As for make up, I do spend a little more money on this stuff because I adore Bare Minerals

I don't have anywhere near perfect skin, and this stuff covers pretty much any flaw and looks pretty natural while doing so.
My mascara and eye liner both come from the ULTA house brand. I've been really impressed with how reliable thier stuff is. The mascara offers great coverage and doesn't clump (I use the stuff in the orange tube) and the eye liner doesn't smudge too badly and comes in a really great range of colors (I have brown, sparkley brown and black, blue and green).

I rarely wear lipstick and usually just stick to my Burts Bee's.

I've been using it since middle school, so why stop now? haha

Those are pretty much all the things I use on a daily basis. I also have a decently large (and ever growing) collection of nail polish, along with way too much eye shadow to ever be used :-)
